The media plays a major role in raising awareness because of its ability to influence people. In recent years, the media has been mobilizing support and involvement regarding human rights, with one of the issues being human trafficking.
By using the power and influence of its branding, MTV started their campaign against trafficking called MTV Exit (End Exploitation and Trafficking). They use multimedia including concerts, drama series, and music videos to encourage young people to take a stand against human trafficking. For example, Simple Plan, one of the many artists involved in the campaign, made a music video in collaboration with MTV Exit called “This Song Saved My Life”.
MTV Exit has also made a presence in social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube by creating online movements, such as the Freedom Pledge.
